Installation Guidance

Professional Installation Guidance

Practical guidance for planning and installing TEWOLAM homogeneous vinyl flooring in commercial projects.

Professional Web Guidance

Plan the installation before work begins.

This web guidance provides a professional project sequence for TEWOLAM homogeneous vinyl sheet flooring. Use it with the approved project specification, applicable local requirements, current installation-product instructions and any published SANFU document.

Installation Sequence

Five controlled stages.

Preparation and planning establish the conditions for consistent bonding, joint quality and finishing.

  1. 01PrepareConfirm materials, site readiness and subfloor condition.
  2. 02PlanCoordinate roll direction, sheet positions and seam locations.
  3. 03BondApply a suitable adhesive evenly and place sheets within its working time.
  4. 04RollConsolidate the flooring to support full, consistent contact.
  5. 05FinishComplete seams, junctions, edges and post-installation protection.

Project Readiness

Before Installation

Confirm the product and the project environment before any material is cut or bonded.

  • Confirm the product, Color and production batch against the project schedule.
  • Inspect rolls and packaging for visible damage before installation.
  • Store material in a clean, dry and controlled environment.
  • Allow material to acclimatize where required by the project conditions and approved guidance.
  • Confirm that site conditions are suitable for resilient sheet flooring installation.
  • Review drawings, room geometry, installation direction and interface details with the project team.

Foundation

Subfloor Preparation

The finished surface depends on a properly prepared and stable base.

  • Provide a subfloor that is smooth, dry, clean, stable and level.
  • Remove dust, oil, paint, loose material and other contamination that may affect bonding.
  • Treat cracks, joints, ridges and uneven areas with methods appropriate to the substrate and project.
  • Confirm that repairs and levelling materials are fully suitable before flooring installation begins.
  • Verify moisture and site conditions using the project specification and applicable local requirements; do not install over an unsuitable base.

Set-out

Layout & Material Planning

Plan the installation as one coordinated floor rather than a sequence of isolated sheets.

  • Plan roll direction in relation to room geometry, principal sightlines and the Collection's visual direction.
  • Minimize unnecessary seams and avoid poorly positioned joints at critical interfaces where practical.
  • Coordinate seam locations with doorways, transitions, penetrations and fixed equipment.
  • Check Color and batch consistency before sheets are combined within the same visible area.
  • Position or dry-lay sheets before final bonding where appropriate to confirm alignment and fit.

Bonding

Adhesive & Installation

Use installation products and working methods suitable for homogeneous vinyl sheet flooring and the actual substrate.

  • Select an adhesive suitable for homogeneous vinyl sheet flooring, the substrate and the project conditions.
  • Follow the adhesive manufacturer's current preparation, application and safety instructions.
  • Apply adhesive evenly with the recommended tool and avoid missed areas or excessive build-up.
  • Observe the adhesive's stated open and working time under the actual site conditions.
  • Place sheets carefully without trapping air or disturbing the planned alignment.
  • Roll the installed flooring methodically to support full and consistent adhesive contact.

Joint Quality

Seams & Welding

Consistent seam preparation is essential to a controlled commercial installation.

  • Trim sheet edges accurately and maintain a clean, consistent joint.
  • Prepare the seam only when the flooring and adhesive are ready for the specified joint treatment.
  • Use heat welding where required by the project specification.
  • Use a compatible welding rod and equipment suited to resilient sheet flooring.
  • Allow the weld to cool before trimming it in the appropriate stages.
  • Inspect completed seams for continuity, cleanliness and alignment.

Completion

Finishing & Handover

Complete interfaces carefully, then protect the finished floor until the project is ready for use.

  • Finish wall junctions, doorways, penetrations, transitions and exposed edges neatly.
  • Form coving only where it is specified and supported by the approved installation detail.
  • Remove construction debris without damaging the new surface.
  • Protect completed flooring from other trades, sharp loads and premature heavy traffic.
  • Carry out initial cleaning in line with project requirements and any published SANFU care guidance.
  • Release the area for normal use only after the installation system is ready under the relevant manufacturer and project instructions.

Quality Control

Common Installation Mistakes

Most visible installation problems begin with rushed preparation or uncontrolled site conditions.

  • Installing over an unsuitable, contaminated or uneven subfloor.
  • Ignoring site moisture, temperature or other project conditions.
  • Starting without confirming Product, Color, batch and sheet direction.
  • Using poor or inconsistent adhesive coverage.
  • Insufficient rolling or failing to check contact at edges and seams.
  • Rushing seam preparation, welding or trimming.
  • Allowing construction traffic or heavy loads onto the floor too early.
